Side Bending of the Trunk
Side Bending of the Trunk is a Eurofit test for lateral flexibility of the torso.
Testing Procedure
- The examinee stands with back slightly touching a wall and feet oriented forwards and placed over tapes spaced 15 cm (6”) apart.
- While both arms are down at the sides and the fingers held straight, the positions of both middle fingertips are marked on the thighs.
- While maintaining contact between the upper back and the wall, the examinee bends the trunk laterally to the right as far as possible and the new position of the middle finger is marked on the thigh. This is repeated for the left side.
- The distance the fingertips moved when bending to the side is measured for both the left and right sides and averaged.
Test Norms
The following table, based on a Finnish population study, can be used to determine percentile rank based on gender, age-range, and distance of the side bend. Percentile Values for Side-Bending Distance, cm(in) | Points by Age Range and Repetitions | Percentile | Age Range |
